Our guest speakers for the June 21 meeting are SUSAN JACOBS, Associate Executive Director of the Indiana State Bar Association, and EDNA WALLACE, RP, IRP.  Ms. Jacobs and Ms. Wallace will provide a presentation on the Indiana Registered Paralegal Program adopted in 2014 and answer questions with regard to the IRP certification.

Susan T. Jacobs is the associate executive director of the Indiana State Bar Association, where she has worked for 21 years. Susan serves as liaison to the Membership & Membership Benefits, Long Range Planning, Legal Education Conclave, Affiliate Membership and Wellness committees. She received her B.S. in social work and her M.S. in counseling and guidance, both from Indiana University. Additionally, she is an active member of the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE) and has been a recipient of their prestigious Presidents Award on two occasions, first in 2004 and again in 2010. When she is not working tirelessly on behalf of the ISBA or NABE, she enjoys spending time with her husband, visiting their two children and spoiling her granddaughter

Edna M. Wallace is a PACE Registered Paralegal and Indiana Registered Paralegal, recently retired from Whitham Hebenstreit & Zubek, LLP, where she was employed by Michael J. Hebenstreit for over 23 years. Edna was the first Paralegal Member of ISBA as well as the first member to obtain status of Indiana Registered Paralegal (“IRP”).  Edna and others on the committee (Lauren Jones and Cathy Canny) have been instrumental in creating and implementing the Indiana Registered Paralegal Program under the guidance of the Honorable Edward Najam, Indiana Court of Appeals, David Jones, Evansville attorney, Michael J. Hebenstreit, Indianapolis attorney and Susan Jacobs, ISBA.   Edna, Lauren and Cathy were among the six Paralegals selected to testify before the Supreme Court Rules Committee, and together the three were selected to assist the Sub-Committee of the Rules Committee appointed to research and refine the proposal for submission to the Supreme Court.  Edna was then appointed to the ISBA Sub-Committee, Chaired by Indianapolis attorney John Conlon,  to prepare comments pursuant to the request of IN Supreme Court Chief Justice, the Honorable Randall T. Shepard.

Edna is active in IPA, NFPA, Indianapolis Bar Association and the ISBA.  She is an active participant in Pro Bono, and serves on the ISBA  Affiliates Committee, Ethics Committee, and the Pro Bono Committee as well the Solo & Small Firm Committee where she served as Chair of “Staff Track” at the 2015 Solo & Small Firm Conference.  Edna is an avid quilter and enjoys reading and spending time with her husband and grandchildren.
